Benjamin Franklin, the communicator and the first bloggerOn this holiday weekend, fellow history buffs and Benjamin Franklin aficionados, reflect on our founding fathers. From my own involvement in business-to-business social media, I suspect Ben would have eagerly adopted social media and spread the revolutionary word via a blog version of Poor Richard’s Almanac.

Our webinar "Elevating Your B2B Blog: Content, Conversations & Conversions" resulted in more questions than we had time to answer so we have provided a personal reply on our blog to each question.

It'’s more than ideas. It'’s more than marketing. Starting a B2B blog is a commitment and should be carefully thought-through before executing.

ToDoListforStartingaB2BBlog MarkSchaefer resized 600{grow} community member Tabatha Bourguignon told me she is starting a blog for her company, Sandy Bay Networks, and asked me about the steps to take to get started. Let's all help her out, shall we?

The technology part of it,— the right look, functionality and widgets,— is not that big of deal when it comes to long-term success. You can make technology do anything you want, iterate and add widgets over time. However, you can'’t make HUMANS do anything you want, and that is the most-overlooked,— and also the most important, aspect of starting a company blog from scratch. Let'’s look at the practical political realties of building a company blog.

Our recent webinar "Elevating Your B2B Blog: Content, Conversations & Conversions" resulted in more questions than we had time to answer so we have provided a personal reply on our blog to each question.

This corporate blogging question was submitted to me by our good {grow} friend Brent Pohlman:

On a scale of 1-to-5, with 5 being a requirement, which items are most critical to a great blog post?

Elevate your B2B blog with a great title, image, content and call-to-action.

  • Great Title
  • Image
  • Introductory Paragraph
  • Content with facts, figures and links,
  • Call to Action,
  • RSS Feed,
• Social sharing options

Boy that is a tough one,… and my answer might surprise you.

First, any company blog should be aligned with your marketing objectives and those will vary company to company. But to keep things simple, let’'s say the over-arching goal of every post is to get the thing read!

Our recent webinar "Elevating Your B2B Blog: Content, Conversations & Conversions" resulted in more questions than we had time to answer so we'll provide a personal reply on our blog to each question over the next few days.

Elevating Your B2B BlogWe have an extraordinary opportunity today! Thanks to Christina Pappas, a blogger with Zmags.com, we'’re going to dissect her blog as a case study! Christina came to me with this familiar question:

I joined my company in September of 2010 and one of my “missions” was to start and maintain a consistent blogging schedule. I am posting regularly (at least 1x per day) and am sticking to themes that my audience would relate to. But I cannot reach two goals: getting subscribers and getting comments. We have 2,500 customers and only 170 blog subscribers. Why such a big disconnect? Why am I creating great content for no results?
